However, many barriers exist to their interoperability and there is little interaction between these islands of information. As part of moving building data to the cloud there is a critical need to reflect on the design of cloudbased data services and how they are designed from an interoperability perspective. If new cloud data services are designed in the same manner as traditional building management systems they will suffer from the data interoperability problems. Linked data technology leverages the existing open protocols and W3C standards of the Web architecture for sharing structured data on the web. In this paper we propose the use of linked data as an enabling technology for cloud-based building data services. The objective of linking building data in the cloud is to create an integrated well-connected graph of relevant information for managing a building. This paper describes the fundamentals of the approach and demonstrates the concept within a Small Medium sized Enterprise (SME) with an owner-occupied office building. 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Background Health system performance assessment (HSPA) is a major tool for evidence-based governance in health systems and patient/population-orientation is increasingly considered as an important aspect. The IPHA study aims (1) to undertake a comprehensive performance assessment of the German health system from a population perspec...

Building performance optimization using cross-domain scenario modeling, linked data, and complex event processing

The scenario modeling method empowers building managers by enabling comprehensive performance analysis in commercial buildings, but is currently limited to data from the building management domain. This paper proposes that Linked Data and Complex Event Processing can form the basis of an interoperability approach that would help to overcome technical and conceptual barriers to cross-domain scen...

Linked Open Ontology Cloud KOKO - Managing a System of Cross-Domain Lightweight Ontologies

The Linked Data movement has focused on building cross-domain interoperability by creating and using (typically) owl:sameAs mappings between the datasets in the Linked Data Cloud (LOD). However, when linking data, ontologies would allow for deeper interoperability. Because different ontologies have been used when annotating different datasets, we argue that the LOD cloud needs to be complemente...

Managing a Linked Open Ontology Cloud for the Web of Data

Web of Data is rapidly becoming a backbone of Digital Libraries. Here data is collected into Linked (Open) Data (LOD) clouds. The idea is that if cross-domain heterogeneous content can be made interoperable in the cloud, then datasets will enrich each other semantically across data silos, enabling more comprehensive and intelligent services for human end-users and web services. A prerequisite f...
